Kandya kitchens

When we moved into our 1962 built townhouse we were
extremely fortunate that we had inadvertantly
bought the only house in the development which still had
it's original Kandya kitchen. It turns out that over the years
most neighbours had ripped theirs out and slung them into
skips (tragedy).

I loved the kitchen immediately but knew little about it
apart from the Kandya logo inside the drawers.
A little research provides more background on these
lovely solid beech cabinets and sliding doors in both
coloured laminate and glass. They were called
"Trimma" designed by Frank Guille in 1956 they were the
first such modular kitchen units and the simple fact that they
are still in daily use is a testament to their practicality and
high quality.

The only thing I didn't like about our cupboards was that a
previous owner had painted them rather badly so I have
re-surfaced them with black and alternating green formica
laminate.

These Trimma units are now highly sought after
and occasionally fetch large sums at auction.
I'd be interested to hear from anybody else who
has this kitchen especially in it's original setting.
