Ernest Race

My favourite British designer is Ernest Race.

He trained as an interior designer in the 30's and specialised in textiles. He is probably best known though for designs he created for the 1951 "Festival of Britain" most notably the Antelope chair.

Apparently the Antelope was designed to only be comfortable for a short amount of time to discourage people sitting around for too long on the South bank. I own one of these and can testify to the success of that concept.

This is the BD1 sideboard, I'd love one of these.

A trade press ad for the wonderful Heron chair, (I own 2 of these
chairs)

And now Race have begun to remanufacture these classic British armchairs
